Major Misadventures in the lead up to two exhibitions

On the morning of install for the first exhibition after loading all my things in the car I turned to Graham and said, “I don’t need to check the door, because I know I’ve locked it.” Upon arrival in Bayswater my phone rings and Dad asks if I intended to leave the door wide open.

Necklace Naked

I was given a necklace from my high school upon graduation. I left shortly after for a year in Finland, the necklace came too, so I would be close to my friends. Every time I took it off. Something bad would happen. So I never took it off. When I left the school in Finland I was given another charm, the Finnish Lion for bravery: I added it to the necklace.

The necklace broke once, in the shower. Mum fixed it.

I haven’t been without the necklace for 5 years, for fear that something bad will happen, even though bad things have happened since I was in Finland.

The other night I clutched the necklace while I went to sleep.

The next night while I was getting undressed I noticed that the necklace was gone. Necklace Naked.

And now I am waiting for the main bad thing to happen. [1]

Not knowing left from right in driving lessons.

Some other things I don’t remember.

Just a bit sad.

I went to uni to get help with the catalogue for the show. I sat down at the desks, reached for my phone. The phone slipped, splat face down on the slate floor. Paul and I look at each other, breathing out at the same time, knowing what had happened.

The screen had cracked.

At the apple store the genius informed me that the battery is on the way out too.

[1] The next week I found my necklace behind the false wall at the gallery.
